What is SURGE?
The City will be constructing a plant-based stormwater systems on Broadway Ave. and on Lincoln St. in 2010.
Spokane Urban Runoff Greenways Ecosystem or SURGE will construct Low Impact Development (LID) “storm gardens”
planters between the curb and sidewalk to capture, treat and infiltrate runoff.
Pervious sidewalk, trees and plants will also be included as a part of the Broadway stormwater management system. Curb extensions and plants will be built to utilize the existing sidewalks and street trees as part of the Lincoln Street Stormwater Management System. The adjacent property owners will be responsible for maintaining the storm garden planters.
