Real Time Combined Sewer Overflow Monitoring

The table below reflects the current operational status of the Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) monitoring sites in the City of Spokane. As of Dec 21, 2006 there are 26 monitoring sites. Nine of the monitoring sites are priority sites. If a site is flashing, that represents that a CSO overflow event is occurring or has occurred in the last 48 hours. The date and time listed is the start time of the overflow event and will automatically shut off after 48 hours.

All residents and visitors to the area, as a precaution, should avoid water contact sports and activities (ie. swimming, boating, fishing, etc...) during rainfall and snowmelt conditions that result in a discharge (CSO overflow) as observed in the field or as indicated on the table below.

Also, residents can help locate and solve sewer system problems by calling (509) 344-FISH whenever they observe a discharge from the CSO pipe to the river (especially during the summer months). Just make sure to note the CSO two (2) digit number on the sign located next to the outfall pipe so City staff will know exactly where the overflow occurred. The City will then confirm whether the discharge is from a combined sewer system or stormwater system.

Flow monitoring equipment is subject to periodic malfunctions due to debris which may foul the sensors. The event table above is subject to revision and is for informational purpose only. Official verification of actual overflow frequency, duration, and volume is available below in the monthly overflow reports.

Monthly Reports

To accommodate data analysis and report preparation, monthly reports are scheduled to be posted by the 15th of the second month after the month of the report. For example the CSO Monthly Report for January would be scheduled to be posted by the 15th of March.
